About
Citizen Horse started as an online equestrian magazine in the spring of 2008. For eight months, various writers contributed original articles to the magazine a couple times a week. Subjects spanned the English horse world and ranged in tone from informative to scathingly editorial. Though several authors were credited with articles, Citizen Horse, the magazine, only lived under one real author’s pen.
Citizen.K’s true identity is Kristine Oakhurst. An accomplished equestrian of three decades, Kristine has competitively shown in the upper levels of hunters, equitation, medals, and show jumping at every major North American horse show.
Currently, Kristine owns an 11 year old Holsteiner that she bred and trained named Frankie. Together, they’ve shown through Open Jumpers and last year attempted a career change to eventing (Kristine & Frankie Eventing). Unfortunately though Frankie was very talented and they started right into Training Level with aspirations of Rolex; Frankie had two problems 1. he hates water and 2. the one day events caused ulcers for Frankie. So back to ring for more learning, possibly competition, but as a partnership always having fun.
During her many years inside the horse industry, Kristine has performed every job from groom, vet tech, stall cleaner, catch rider, barn manager, trainer, and even sat on the board of a breed committee. In addition to Citizen Horse, Kristine spends her time writing fiction and non-fiction and has completed one screenplay. She’s enjoyably employed by a major equestrian corporation.
